Divine’s Four Roles

ree

Excerpt from a video of Maitreya Dadashreeji

Maitreya Dadashreeji:

A teacher disciplines children in his class. He invariably disciplines specific children and he never says a word to some of the others. All children at some time or the other get into mischief, don’t pay attention or talk during class.

The teacher will only discipline certain children asking them to pay attention to their studies. He doesn’t say anything to the real disruptive students because the teacher realizes that these kids will not listen and will not improve. The teacher gives up on these disruptive children because he knows they won’t change their wayward behavior! There is no scope of improvement with them. If you feel the Divine is disciplining you, why do you think that is?

Audience member’s answer: We show scope to improve.

Maitreya Dadashreeji:

Yes, certainly there is scope for improvement, but the Divine sees you as an obedient and promising child. You listen to the Divine and try to improve yourself. If the Divine disciplines you; he/she does it for your own good.

The role of the Divine right now is Justice (Nyaya). Two roles of the Divine prior to Justice are Truth (Satya) and to adhere to Your Truth (Dharma). What is Truth? That which is internally revealed to you is your Truth! We are not talking about the absolute Truth here. We are talking about your Truth; that which is within you and what you experience. What is the truth for us right now?

That there is only One Divine. That One Divine is manifest in various forms. There is One Source and that Source is the Divine. We have distanced ourselves from that One Source. Due to the time (Kaal) we live in, our reason for sorrow is that we have distanced ourselves from the Divine. That Divine is all Love, (Divine) is full of friendship! We need to return to the Divine and merge within that Divine source.

We need to become One with that Love and have ‘a bond of friendship with the Divine.’ When we are able to do this, our journey will be complete. It is so simple! Your ‘dharma’ is based on your inner truth. First your Divine tells you what your truth is.  Then to live by that truth is your dharma. To live by your ethos and your truth is dharma. You will experience being One with the Truth. That is Dharma. Talk to people with a feeling of friendship (Maitri bhaav) and have a bond of love (with your own Divine).

The Truth may be taken as a bunch of principles or a philosophy. But that Truth needs to be assimilated and translated into our behavior. Otherwise, there is no point! There is no sense unless we live by our Truth! Our actions and our work need to reflect our Truth. This is how we live by our dharma.

The third role of the Divine is Justice (Nyaya). Once dharma is known and people choose to transgress/ live an unethical life, then the Divine has to intervene. The Divine has revealed your Truth; you’ve been told to live by it. Yet, you choose to live a life away from dharma. The Divine then has to do justice. He/she tells us right from wrong. Even after all this if people don’t follow their Truth and Dharma then the fourth role of the Divine takes over: one of dissolution (Samhaara). Those who will listen and change, let them change. Nature will not permit those who continue to do wrong and follow and do not follow their Dharama (Adharma) to have a place! These are the four roles of the Divine.

Where would you like to see yourself? The path of dharma will lead you through your duties (Artha), your desires (Kama) and into liberation (Moksha)- you will move towards Liberation (Moksha). But the path of not following your Truth (Adharma ) will go towards justice and dissolution. There it will end!
