Does Connecting to Your Form of Divine Help you Grow Spiritually?

Question:
Dada, a lot of people believe that Deity worship doesn't count spiritual enhancement. What is your take on that?
Maitreya Dadashreeji:
When you start your spiritual journey, you are looking for a way to experience the Ultimate Truth in life. If you are aiming to experience the Ultimate Truth through meditation, then it's not necessary to follow the Divine or worship idols in any form. But if you want to experience the Divine, then you have to make a connection with a Divine Form (a form of Divine such as Jesus, or in the Hindu tradition Krishna). A devotee will make a connection only with a Divine Form and see the Whole Universe in them. For them their “Ishwara” (the form of the Divine they worship) is everything and IS the Ultimate Truth in Life. Some people say that the Divine is without any “form” (Nirakara) and they firmly believe in this concept.
Where do you find yourself on this spiritual journey? If you want to connect to the Divine, then pray to Him/Her. But your only aim should be to experience the Divine. It should not be to get something out of Divine like money or success. Try to experience the Divine. We become selfish when we pray and we ask for favors in return. (Only) once our wishes get fulfilled, then we are satisfied.
Why don’t you ask for Divine Himself/Herself? Request for the experience of him/ her being with you. How much can you ask from Divine? Even the whole world is very tiny for Divine to give it to you. Ask for Divine himself/ herself! The Divine is the highest. She/He is the ultimate truth. It very good when you pray with this emotion.
“Ishwara” (the Divine) doesn’t want you to worship him or her. The Divine doesn’t grow because of your prayer. You grow on your spiritual path (through worshiping Divine). Therefore, having the right emotion is very important for everything you do in your devotional journey.
