Question:
What is highest spiritual state a human being can achieve? How does one go about achieving it?
Maitreya Dadashreeji:
Very nice, ( this is very nice question). As we were saying earlier; when you become one with the ocean, you no longer have an ‘I’ sense. Your sense of ‘I’ is no longer there. The desire to attain the highest spiritual state also ceases to be!
As an individual, one strives to be happy. Your constant endeavor is to try to be happy. However, our experience of life in the world is never happy. We always fall short, and we are dissatisfied. If we ask all of you right now about how your life is; all of you will unanimously say, it is full of ‘ sorrow’ (dukha). It is full of strife! If we were to ask a multitude of people about their life, perhaps a handful may say their life has been happy. We can see it on your face! It’s another matter that when you’re here with us! Then you are smiling! Once you go home and deal with people around you, in your neighborhood, your smile gradually shrinks and fades away.
Life is full of joys and sorrows. Your journey is to experience the Purest Blissful state (ananda avastha). There is no word to define opposite of ‘bliss’ (ananda). As a human being you can definitely move towards ‘ananda’. That ‘ananda’ too is not experienced fully. You can only experience 'ananda’ in a true sense once the ‘I’ or the sense of self drops off. You even lose the desire to want to experience 'ananda.’ There is no sense of ‘I’ or “me’ at that stage. Desires drop off, they just go away! At this stage, there is an end to being a ‘ person’, an individual. Imagine a border where on one side you are an individual and once you cross over the threshold who are whole.( Sarvatra). You are complete. (purna).
How does one get to this state? One needs to give up all desires from within. This is not done externally. You may be a very wealthy person but internally one needs to give up all their desires. When everything is given up internally, there is nothing left that belongs to you; and when nothing is left that belongs to you, all that there is belongs to the Divine. Then who do you belong to at that stage? you belong to the Divine, of course! Your thoughts are Divine’s thoughts. Your heart, your source all is the Divine!
Then who are you? Think logically… This is the beautiful thing about ’Dharma‘ ( One’s True Ethical Path to their own sacred higher self). There is this phrase the has profound wisdom: “I am the Divine’ (‘Aham Brahma Asmi’). You can experience this Truth and you have freedom within. You can go towards ‘the Truth: the Eternal Truth.’ We are not referring the Brahma (a form of Divine with 3 heads). Brahma is the ‘ Eternal Truth’. At this stage you no longer identify as an individual or a person. Whatever is, is only the Divine! At this stage you have completed your journey.
When this desire manifests within you, to go towards the Divine, Divine himself will pull you towards Him. When you are prepared and ready for this, the Divine himself will pull you towards Him. Let the Divine pull you! You just flow with it! Don’t resist; you will get there really soon! Don’t take a detour taking a few days off to relax.
You just need to walk with the Divine; just flow with it. Don’t leave the course of the river. If you run into a friend and may disappear for five to six years! One has to leave one’s attachments and flow with the river. You need to flow with the Grace of the Divine!
